New York, day 9

Day 16 - Saturday 26/6/10

This morning we headed out early for Grand Central Station to meet some friends from Connecticut who were coming into the city for their first ever visit! Grand Central was huge and just gorgeous!
We arrived at the same time as they did and despite the size of the place and the crowds, we found them easily. We sat down for breakfast at one of the stations cafes and planned our morning. I couldn't believe that they only lived 2 hours away and had never been to New York before! They wanted to see Times Square so we headed out on foot. It was crazy that we were the ones showing them around!

On the way we spotted Bryant Park and had to take a photo as Emily and I are big Project Runway fans.
We walked down to Times Square and went to Toys R Us first

and then the M&Ms Store.

After that we split up, with them heading down to Central Park and us going to find some lunch. We decided on Bubba Gump's and spotted the Naked Cowboy on the walk down there!

I don't remember what we ordered but I do know it was good! We all really enjoyed our meals. We left Bubba Gump's at 1.30pm for the short walk to the New Amsterdam Theater. We thought we had plenty of time to get there before the 2pm matinee of Mary Poppins. The crowds were huge though and the street was deadlocked! We could only move at a snail's pace and it took us 20 minutes to walk 2 blocks. We were meeting our friends there and I had all the tickets, so I had to wait outside for them as they were stuck in the crowd as well. They arrived with only a couple of minutes to spare and we took our seats just before the curtain went up.

The show was awesome! We absolutely loved it! After the show we walked over to Carmine's to try to get in for an early dinner. There was at least a 2 hour wait again so we left and walked down to 9th Ave and found another Italian restaurant where we had a lovely pasta meal. The rest of the group wanted an early night so we waved them off to the hotel and we caught a bus down to Central Park as we still wanted to do a horse and carriage ride.

Unfortunately it was raining so we had the roof up which meant we really couldn't see much, but it was nice and relaxing and we had fun feeding the horse some carrots afterwards!

Afterwards we checked out the sculptures at the park entrance

and then headed back to the hotel, taking a few last photos of our adopted neighbourhood.
